Festival fever: 2 days to go

The Brussels Tango Festival is about to start and here’s some last-minute practical information:

  • The first milonga on Thursday will have a guarded parking on the Place Communale of Molenbeek (500m from the venue). Check out the exact location here: Parking at Maison des Cultures.
  • Print out the memento to have an easy overview of all milongas and their location, and the workshop schedule.
  • On Saturday March 4th, the metro lines in Brussels change slightly, so make sure you get an up-to-date metro plan!
  • I’m gonna be there every evening to take pictures, and you can expect to see pictures on this site and the festival blog the next day.
  • The ‘normal’ Brussels milongas on Saturday (Schaarbeek – Nosotros) and Sunday (Pianofabriek – Gisela & Sergio) will NOT take place during the festival!!
  • The weather outlook is splendid: we’re heading for a sunny 18° on Thursday and Friday!

See you all at the festival!

Photos: milonga & concert at Maison du Peuple

Sergio had a special guest for his Maison Du Peuple milonga: Alfredo Marcucci with his tango orchestra. And I also discovered plenty of tattoos on pretty ladies, two of which are shown in this article.

Photos: Tangueria Women’s Day milonga

Last Sunday Marisa & Oliver dedicated their Tangueria milonga to women in honour of the International Women’s Day. Women got drinks, more attention and for an hour even the ‘obligation’ to invite men instead of the other way round.

We clearly noticed that when women invite, they are a lot more couples on the floor.

Salon Nosotros / Bouche-à-Oreille

It was really nice and full (around 200 dancers). Despite the fact that we started quite early (at 7PM), at midnight there were still people arriving! So we finished at 2AM: a seven-hour salon is really not bad.
(from Diego)

I couldn’t make it, but Diego was kind enough to send me a picture and some feedback from the Nosotros milonga at the nice theatre Bouche-à-Oreille.

Announced: Tribute to Madonna @ Gent

Tribute to Madonna - Sarahcademy Tribute to Madonna - Sarahcademy
For those who missed the previous edition in Brussels: there will be another opportunity to see the “Tribute to Madonna” show that features several dozens of dance enthusiasts showing their skills in salsa, oriental, bollywood, disco, flamenco, hip-hop and of course tango. The show is created by Sarah Cavenaile (Facebook), a familiar face in the Brussels tango scene, and her troupe “Sarahcademy“. There are almost 20 choreographies, all on songs by Madonna. The first edition, on the 5th of Dec 2008 in Espace Senghor, was a big success and the show is now being planned in the Gent area, in collaboration with Lagrimas Negras:

Tribute to Madonna, c’est un spectacle de danse sexy, mystique et divertissant qui mélange et réunit artistes, styles de danse et costumes dans l’esprit de sa MADjesté, mixant chorégraphies nouvelles et originales.
Ce spectacle, présenté pour la première fois le 5 décembre 2008 à l’espace Senghor à Bruxelles, a rencontré un immense succès de foule et de satisfaction des spectateurs. Le refaire était donc une évidence.

In the tango part you will recognize some familiar faces, besides Sarah: Ilse, Annik, Ludo, Nicolas and yours truly.
