Milonga + portraits @ La Tangueria

There are two Tangueria milongas per month and I go to most of them, so to make the last one a bit different, I decided to use only my favourite portrait lens and take some pictures away from the dance floor. I am quite happy with the results!

First of all someone who prefers to remain incognito:

BTF: taking pictures

Taking pictures at the festival was very rewarding: the venues are special, the people are beautiful, the lighting is challenging and you get lots of compliments. This year, it was even more fun for me, because I had invited a different friend photographer each evening. None of them are tango dancers or had a lot of experience with tango photography, but they all seemed to enjoy the opportunity to experiment. I want to thank all four for helping me take pictures, talking about aperture and white balance and making the whole experience much more pleasant. You guys are great!

BTF: looking for videos

I’ve seen lots of people record performances with their cameras/phones but I haven’t seen too much of them show up on e.g. Youtube. Here’s what i have found until now, and I’d be very happy to receive some hint on where to find more videos. Or if you have one but you didn’t upload it yet: Youtube it!

BTF-5: Closing night @ Bains::Connective

(Check out all photos of the Brussels Tango Festival 2009)
The last chance to dance at the festival, and with the visiting maestros, was at the swimming-pool-converted-to-milonga Les Bains. Less crowded than the other days, the dance-floor allowed a pleasant dancing experience and made people forget about their sore feet and lack of sleep. A nice end of an excellent festival!

BTF-4: Surprise @ Vaudeville

(Check out all photos of the Brussels Tango Festival 2009)

On Sunday all the festival participants with any life left in their feet gathered at the Theatre de Vaudeville for the much anticipated Surprise & Impro evening. The maestros were put in a circle and the audience got to pick and choose the couples. Some of the performances were closer to theatre than dancing but the crowd was positively amused. These are the combinations that came up:

BTF-3: Exhibition @ Concert Noble

(Check out all photos of the Brussels Tango Festival 2009)
This year the Concert Noble was even bigger than last year: an extra room for dancing and the live concert by Hyperion. The Concert Noble is definitely not the easiest place to take pictures, but it is by far the most exclusive chique venue of this festival.

Dancing

This evening the DJ came straight from La Viruta, Buenos Aires, and Horacio likes to add an Argentinian spicey element: chacarera.

Then the dancing started in the biggest hall, and soon also took over the second hall and briefly the third: finally enough space to dance.

After party at La Cellule

At times when sensible people take to their beds, a considerable bunch of festival tangueros and tangueras gathered in La Cellule to just keep on going. The crack of dawn came and went, birds started their morning songs, and we all hid in an cosy abrazo.
