BTF-3: Exhibition @ Concert Noble

(Check out all photos of the Brussels Tango Festival 2009)
This year the Concert Noble was even bigger than last year: an extra room for dancing and the live concert by Hyperion. The Concert Noble is definitely not the easiest place to take pictures, but it is by far the most exclusive chique venue of this festival.

Dancing

This evening the DJ came straight from La Viruta, Buenos Aires, and Horacio likes to add an Argentinian spicey element: chacarera.

Then the dancing started in the biggest hall, and soon also took over the second hall and briefly the third: finally enough space to dance.

After party at La Cellule

At times when sensible people take to their beds, a considerable bunch of festival tangueros and tangueras gathered in La Cellule to just keep on going. The crack of dawn came and went, birds started their morning songs, and we all hid in an cosy abrazo.

Brussels Tango festival: Elastico Tango

Friday was a beautiful spring day, and the place to take your tango aperitif on a terras was Cafe Central, on St-Géry/Sint-Goriks. Not only for the sun and the beautiful people, but also for Odile Gheysens & Eric Lecomte with their performance “Elastico-Tango”, which involved dancing against a solid wall while hanging from strings. It was quite spectacular and had at some point the crowd reacting in the ‘fireworks’ way: “oooooh!” every time Odile and Eric did one of their synchronized acrobatic moves. Quite a treat!

Meanwhile in Cafe Central: Apero Tango. Sun or no sun, we keep dancing like there’s no tomorrow.

BTF-1: Maison des cultures et … @ Molenbeek

(Check out all photos of the Brussels Tango Festival 2009)

The opening milonga for the festival was held in the “Maison des cultures et de la cohésion sociale“, a big name for a new venue in the heart of Sint-Jans-Molenbeek. As the mayor Moureau explained, it was kind of the unofficial opening of the renovated school and he was proud to see it inaugurated by an international crowd with a passion for an Argentinian dance.

There was a live concert on guitar, harmonica and bass, which inevitably reminded us of Hugo Diaz, but that’s not a bad reference.
