Announcing: Milonga @ Kiosque, 2009

For the 6th year already, there will be milongas at the Kiosque in the Parc Royal/Warandepark in Brussels during the summer months. For those who have never done those: it’s an open air milonga, in the pittoresque kiosque, and most of the times, the weather is smashing! It’s really a unique location and atmosphere.

The first one is on June 27th, that is exeactly one month from now, and from then every 2 weeks: July 11, July 25, August 8, August 22 and September 5th. Already on the first there will be a live performance. Don’t miss these milongas!

It was a warm milonga, partly because it was almost 30° and most of us were thinking ‘why aren’t we at a BBQ?‘. Partly also because it was the birthday of Claudine and as these things go, several men battled over her during a birthday dance.

Nosotros Milonga / demo Fernando Galera

Last Saturday I went for the first time to the new Nosotros milonga in Cité Culture, Laeken. The venue is in the middle of a residential area with large apartment blocks, and when we arrived, we walked through a small park with tango music in the background and the smell of argentinian meat (cook: “El Walter”). Inside it’s very much a cultural centre with a stage and plenty of place for dancing. The special guest for the evening was Fernando Galera, who was in Belgium to give a series of workshops with Eugenia. They did a demo with a stylish tango, a dynamic milonga and to close off, a chacarera that seemed like a lot of fun. Fernando looks very serious when he’s dancing, but in his workshops he turned out to be a very witty guy with a healthy dose of machismo. This is, after all, tango.

Survey about tango shoes for men

Sven is investigating the options for offering nicer tango shoes for men in Belgium. To do this, he has prepared a questionnaire that he would like us men to fill in, to get a better feel of what tastes exist. So tangueros, please participate (you can win a pair of shoes), and hopefully soon we’ll have more choice in men’s shoes here in Belgium!

Milonga + El Flaco Dany @ Pianofabriek

Last Sunday, Gisela and Sergio invited El Flaco Dany to the Pianofabriek to teach some milonga workshops and give a performance at the salon afterwards. He is a master in milonguero style as he demonstrated with Ada Mores and certainly with Gisela, who seemed surprised to be asked, but very happy to oblige.
