Tango Quizzz n°25

TANGO QUIZZZ,

Who wrote “The world has been and will be filth” ?
(“Que el mundo fue y será una porquería”)
The answer is ENRIQUE SANTOS DISCÉPOLO, congratulations to Tdj Jaak !

A good tango is usually not only the work of a musician, but also of a poet, the one that writes to lyrics, the text.
And Enrique Santos Discépolo is one of them, one of the greatest poet in Tango, with Homero Manzi, Contursi and Horacio Ferrer.
And he also composed tangos !

He began as an actor at the theatre, and then at the cinema, but writing Tango was where he was at his best.
He wrote CAMBALACHE, which begins like this :

That the world was and always be filth,
I already know…
In the year five hundred and six
and in the year two thousand too!

The text could be written today, and has a deeply ironic, cynical point of view on the world and on life.
He got even further with Tormenta, some year later, where he interrogates his faith in God.

Howling between the lightning,
lost in the storm
of my endless night,
God! I seek your name …
