Warning: there will be no (more) milonga at Dieweg

I just had some unpleasant news from Theresa: there was supposed to be a ‘Salon @ Dieweg’ on Sunday 29/11, but unfortunately it’s not going to happen. First the owners had tripled their price without prior notice and now they have just cancelled it. So not only will there not be a Dieweg on the 29th, there will probably never be a Dieweg milonga tout court.

I feel sorry for Theresa, because she had already put quite some effort into building that ’5th Sunday of the month’ salon into a household name for the warm atmosphere, the good music and the classy venue. I hope she finds a new, better location and that soon she can start creating a new milonga that will become even more popular!

This weekend, Theresa had prepared us another of those rare pearls of tango bliss: the Dieweg milongas. Yes, the floor was slippery and yes, there were more dancers than ever, but that didn’t stop anyone from having a wonderful time. In between dancing, I took some pictures of nice abrazos, concentrated dancing, deeply connected couples and those nice square patterns on the stone floor.

Milonga: Jardins du Dieweg, March 2008

It had been a long time, so we were all happy that Theresa organised another milonga at the Jardins du Dieweg. DJ Ben started when it was still light, and kept the dancefloor packed until the last Cumparsita. It was already warm now, so bring your hand-held fans for the next one in June!
