Tango Lab Week – France
August 9–15
Previously known as Neotango Week, this project now continues as Tango Lab Week. It brings together musicians in an ensemble setting where experimentation, ensemble playing and new musical directions are central.
Working from the rhythmic and expressive language of Argentine tango, we explore a broader musical landscape. Influences include neotango, jazz, pop, singer-songwriter, electronic music, classical and world music. This approach opens space for new harmonies, textures, rhythms and improvisation.
During the week, we work on newly written compositions as well as arrangements of music from these genres, shaped into a contemporary tango sound. There is a strong focus on personal input, flexibility and developing your own voice within the ensemble. For experienced players this offers depth and expansion; for others, a clear and inspiring way into this repertoire.
Instruments: winds, strings, bandoneon, accordion, guitars, piano/keys, drums, percussion and voice
Parts are tailored to your level, with room for improvisation
The week takes place at Studio Harcigny, a quiet and inspiring location in the French countryside, just across the Belgian border.
